6 Ways To Fix An iPhone Alarm Not Going Off
1.Set an Alarm Sound
Setting an alarm on an iPhone is pretty easy. But many people forget to actually assign a sound to their alarms. To do so, go to your Clock > Alarm and tap on the + icon on the top right. Now set the time and make sure that a sound is selected in the list below. If it is set to “None”, tap on the Sound option and select any alert tone of your choice.
2. Check the Volume of the Ringer
Most of the time, when your alarm doesn’t ring, it’s likely because your Ringer is set to low volume. To fix this, go to Settings > Sounds, and under the Ringer and Alerts option, slide your ringer all the way towards the right to make it loud. Or, you can use the volume buttons of your iPhone to turn up the Ringer volume. However, make sure that you are increasing the volume of Ringer and not the media volume.
3. Make Sure Your iPhone is Not on Silent Mode
If you’ve set your iPhone on silent mode using the Mute Switcher on the left of your phone, your alarm might not go off. To avoid this, put your iPhone on the general mode by switching the Mute Switcher so that the red line in the Switcher is not visible anymore.

Why Does My iPhone Alarm Not Go Off In The Morning?
In total if your alarm doesn’t go off, your ringer is set to low volume, you have forgotten to assign a sound to your alarm or your iPhone is set to vibrate or your iOS is outdated. Update your iOS, increase your ringer volume or turn off vibrate to make your alarm go off.
If your iPhone alarm does not go off in the morning, it might be because of your own negligence or a software issue. Try the 4 solutions we have mentioned above to fix the issue.
If you have tried all the above-mentioned solutions and the problem persists, here are two more hacks you can use:
1. Update Your iOS
If you are using a really outdated version of iOS, your iPhone might have software bugs that are only resolved by updating your iOS. You can update your iPhone by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Alternatively, you can also update your iOS using iTunes by connecting your iPhone to your computer via a USB cable. Whichever method you use, make sure your iPhone is updated to the latest iOS to fix software issues.
2. Reinstall Your iOS
Sometimes, you might face some glitches and bugs after a software update due to improper installation. If you have recently updated your iOS and your alarm does not go off ever since then, you should try reinstalling your iOS to make sure the firmware installs properly this time.
3. Restore Your Device to Factory Settings
If you have tried every hack on the internet and your alarm still does not go off, restoring your iPhone to Factory Settings might actually do the trick. When you restore your iPhone to factory settings, it erases all the information and settings on it and reinstalls the latest version of iOS.
However, only resort to this option if you have your iPhone backed up on your computer or iCloud since restoring it would delete all your data. Restoring to factory settings resets everything. So it also faces any issues in the software. This option is ideal for you if your iPhone is jailbroken because jailbroken devices undergo hundreds of adjustments that can interfere with your iPhone’s functionality.
To factory reset your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Your iPhone would be restored to its factory settings and all your data would be wiped out from it. However, don’t forget to backup your iPhone data to iCloud or a computer.
If you still need convincing bout resetting your iPhone, I reccomend you read my detailed guide explaining what happens when your reset your iPhone and if it’s a good idea.
Does iPhone Alarm Stop By Itself?
An iPhone alarm will stop itself after 15 minutes of ringing, it will stop for 1 minute 30 seconds before ringing again. The alarm cycle will continue until the alarm is manually turned off.
If you are a heavy sleeper like me, then there might be times when you stay asleep even when your alarm has been ringing for like an hour. Now, this might worry you because what if your alarm stops ringing after a certain time and you miss an important meeting?
Turns out, your iPhone alarm is as stubborn as you are. It does not stop by itself until you turn it off manually. Sure it takes a small pause of about 1.5 minutes after 15 minutes of ringing; it goes off again after the pause until eternity.
This pause is deliberately designed by Apple to keep your iPhone’s battery from draining because of continuous ringing, if you are guilty of snoozing your alarm like me let’s see if iPhones have a snooze limit.
How Many Times Can You Snooze An iPhone Alarm?
You can snooze an iPhone alarm indefinitely, if the alarm is snoozed it will sound again in ten minutes.
The number of snoozes allowed on iPhone alarms is unlimited. However, it is easier to confuse the Snooze button with the Stop button when looking at your iPhone with half-opened eyes; make sure you are hitting the Snooze button and not the Stop button.
For many of us hitting the snooze button a few times is part of our morning wake-up routine but according to Reena Mehra M.D., M.S., Director of Sleep Disorders Research at Cleveland Clinic, snoozing isn’t helping our bodies get the restorative sleep that we need, try to snooze only once and allow your body to wake up naturally without falling asleep again.
Why Does My iPhone Alarm Start Loud Then Go Quiet?
The attention awareness feature in iPhone is why your iPhone alarm starts loud then going quiet, To disable the feature, go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Attention Aware Features and then toggle the setting off.
The Attention Aware feature cuts down unnecessary sound after you have seen an alert. Your iPhone knows that you have looked at your phone and therefore turns the volume down to not disturb you, this is useful if you’re trying to ignore an alert during a meeting or an important event.
However, having this feature enabled affects your alarms as they can turn down or go quiet after you have looked at your phone for a brief moment and fall asleep again. You won’t be able to wake up since the alarm won’t ring anymore.
To turn off the Attention Aware feature on your iPhone, go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Attention Aware Features, and then toggle off its settings. It’s important to note that this feature is only available in iPhone models that have Face ID, i.e. iPhone X and later models.

How Long Will An iPhone Alarm Ring?
iPhones alarms ring uninterrupted for 15 minutes, after the iPhone will display a message on the home screen of the alarm, it will remain silent for 1 minute 30 seconds before repeating the process.
The 1.5-minute pause in between is only to make sure that your iPhone doesn’t overheat due to continuous ringing or that your battery drains out. It is also so that the alarm can work more effectively in waking you since the ringing after a 1.5-minute pause might startle you in your sleep.
If you ever use your iPhone while it’s charging this could damage the battery, I suggest you read my article explaining how safe using an iPhone charging is for the battery.
Do iPhone Alarms Eventually Turn Off?
iPhone alarms never turn off, they ring for 15 minutes before taking a pause of 1 minute 30 seconds before ringing again. iPhone alarms must be manually turned off to stop.
No. iPhone alarms will not turn off until you turn them off manually or your battery drains out. Your alarm would take a brief pause for 1.5 minutes after ringing for 15 minutes continuously, but it continues ringing again after the pause until you shut it manually.
Apple tried hard to make the iPhone alarms effective. These damned things would keep ringing for hours and hours until your iPhone’s battery drains out or you turn it off. Your iPhone alarm will never turn off on its own ever.
Why Does Apple Have A 9-Minute Snooze?
The YouTube channel Apple Explained, explained Apple devices have a 9-minute snooze to pay homage to General Electric-Telechron company’s first-ever alarm clock with a snooze feature made available in 1956. The clock had a 9-minute snooze.
As explained by Apple Explained in the above video, the 9-minute snooze was actually a feature introduced in the first-ever analog Snooze-Alarm clock by General Electric-Telechron company in 1956.
The reason why this time duration was 9 minutes was that the scientists were not successful in fitting the gear teeth of this analog clock to set a 10-minute snooze, they had to resort to a 9-minute snooze time.
Since then, the 9-minute snooze is the default snooze time on all alarm clocks, a trend that Apple also followed for iPhone’s alarms.
