Can I Wear My Apple Watch When It Rains? (I Wear It in Thailand’s Rainy Season)

The Apple Watch is one of my favorite Tech products. It is beautiful and does so much. However, it is quite expensive. I understand that you want to keep it protected, away from water and rain.

However, the Apple Watch is waterproof, so shouldn’t wearing it in the rain be okay?

You can safely wear your Apple Watch when it rains if you have an Apple Watch Series 2 or newer as they have a water-resistant rating of 50 meters, under an ISO 2281 water-resistant standard. Therefore, the rain will not harm your Apple Watch.

I’m currently in the Thailand rainy season, and it always rains here. I’ve driven hours in heavy rain with my iPhone 13 mini and Apple Watch exposed to the elements, and they are still working fine.

Look at my video, where I’m using my Apple Watch in heavy rain, and it’s still working perfectly.

I wouldn’t recommend showering with your Apple Watch, as the water is okay, but if it’s very hot and powerful, this could damage your watch.

Please keep reading to know if it’s possible to protect your Apple Watch when it rains.

How Do I Protect My Apple Watch From Rain?

  1. Touch and hold the bottom of the display when your watch face or an app is visible. Wait for Control Center to show, then swipe up. You can open Control Center from any screen.
  2. Tap the Water Lock button. The Water Lock icon appears at the top of the watch face.
  3. It will protect your Apple Watch from the rain. After, turn your crown to stop the water lock and eject all the water away from the watch.

You can invest in a waterproof case from Amazon for a great price here for even more protection. But, aside from a first-generation Apple Watch, you do not need to protect your Apple Watch from the rain.

On a motorbike, I’ve driven countless miles with my Apple Watch exposed to heavy rain in Asia. And it still works well. Think, if it’s water resistant up to 50 meters, a little rain isn’t a big deal.
