Not knowing why the Audible app starts automatically can be frustrating or embarrassing if the app begins playing unexpectedly or in the company of others. 

In this guide, you’ll learn why it starts automatically and how to make it stop in various situations on android, iPhone, and Bluetooth-capable devices.  

Audible will automatically start if the app is open and the player is slid to the “on” position in various sections within the app’s player. To make it stop’ open the Audible app, go to Profile, click the Gear Icon, then adjust the setting sliders to your preferred setting preferences. 

To make sure the Audible app will not automatically start or open, there are a few other things you can do to prevent this from happening in the future as you navigate between using your android, iPhone phone, or audio or Bluetooth features within your car.

How Do I Stop Audible From Opening Automatically?

  1. Sign out of the Audible app. 
  2. To do this, go to Profile.
  3. Select the Gear Icon.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the app.
  5. Sign Out. 
  6. Signing out will disable Audible from accidentally opening until you have logged in to control the app.
  7. Close the Audible App Tab Completely.

If the Audible app has been removed from the temporary screen displayed view, it may remain open in your phone’s recently opened apps section. In addition, a slight bump or motion change can cause the Audible app to open automatically.

  1. To close the Audible app, check to see that the app is not opened by viewing the open apps section of your phone. 
  2. You can do this by touching the lower right corner of your phone. Completely close the app from the opened apps section within your phone. 
  3. Tap the X in the upper right corner of the opened app, and this will close the app completely from the phone until you are ready to reopen and use the Audible app again.

Why Does Audible Keep Starting Automatically?

Audible will automatically start if the app is opened and the player settings are set to start automatically in the Resume Automatic Playback or Automatic Car Mode sections. 

To Adjust the Audible Player settings for Resuming Automatic Playback:

  1. Go to the Profile section.
  2. Tap the Gear Icon.
  3. Open the Player tab.
  4. Go to the Resume Automatic Playback section of the Audible Player.
  5. Slide the slider to the left or “off” position.
  6. If not set properly, Audible will resume automatic playback upon inserting the headset. Audible must be running, but if not properly closed, Audible may open automatically and resume playing.

To Adjust the Audible Player setting for Automatic Car Mode 

  1. Go to the Profile section
  2. Tap the Gear Icon
  3. Open the Player tab
  4. Go to the Automatic Car Mode section of the Audible Player
  5. Slide the slider to the left or “off” position. 
  6. If not set properly, Audible will turn on the Car Mode when your device connects to a car via Bluetooth. 

How Do I Stop Audible From Automatically Playing On My iPhone?

Stop the Audible app from playing automatically on your iPhone by closing or logging out of the app completely and adjusting or turning off the player settings within the Audible app.

To Close Audible 

  1. Check that the app has been exited completely and not just removed from the temporary view. 
  2. To check, touch the lower right section of your phone. 
    1. If the Audible app is open it will show in this section. 
    2. Click the X in the top right of the app window and remove it from the opened apps tabs. 

It will close the app until you reopen the Audible app again.

How To Log Out Of Audible on an iPhone

You can do this by going to the Profile section, scrolling to the bottom, and tapping the Log Out section.

You can also check the player settings to ensure all are set to the “off” position and can no longer automatically resume playback or connect via Bluetooth capabilities.

How To Stop Automatic Playback on Audible On iPhone

  1. Go to the Profile section.
  2. Tap the Gear Icon.
  3. Open the Player tab.
  4. Slide the tab to the left or “off” position to close this option from starting when the app has not been closed properly.
  5. If not done properly, Audible will resume automatic playback upon inserting the headset. Audible must be running, but if not properly closed, Audible may open automatically and resume playing. 

   How To Set Up Automatic Car Mode For Audible On iPhone

  1. Go to the Profile section
  2. Tap the Gear Icon
  3. Open the Player tab
  4. Slide the tab to the off position to close this option and prevent starting the Bluetooth capabilities.  
  5. If not done properly; Audible will turn on the Car Mode when your device connects to a car via Bluetooth.
