Apple allows you to engrave your AirPods, Apple Pencils, AirTags, iPads, and iPods Touch with a combination of names, initials, numbers, and emojis for free! It’s a great way to personalize your Apple products or give them as a gift to a special someone with their names engraved.

However, people ask some questions about Apple engravings that we aim to answer in this article. So read on to find out what Apple does with engraved returns, whether you can get engraving done after purchase, whether you can return engraved products, and more.

Can I Do Engraving After Purchase?

Unfortunately, no. You cannot engrave Apple products after purchase. Apple only allows you to engrave Apple products at the time of purchase online. So you won’t be able to carve them after the products have been delivered to you.

Apple only allows you to engrave products at the time of purchase online. However, you can impress your AirPods, AirTag, iPad, iPod Touch, or Apple Pencil (2nd generation) by using a combination of letters, numbers, and emojis.

The option to engrave your products is absolutely free and only available online. You can choose to engrave your products after adding them to your cart. However, there is no way you can get your Apple products engraved by Apple after purchase.

You can turn to third-party services if you want to engrave it. But do know that doing so would void your Apple guarantee. Another thing you can do is return your product and then rebuy it. However, there is only a two-week return policy.

So you will have to return it within two weeks of purchasing and then rebuy the product online and get it engraved at the time of purchase.

Does Apple Engraving Take Longer?

Getting your Apple products engraved takes longer than usual. For example, if you have ordered a product with engraving, it will take 4-5 more days to deliver. In addition, if you requested it during a high-demand season, the processing time for engraved products can take up to a week.

Apple’s engraved items are processed and shipped to the customers from point-of-manufacture in China. In comparison, their non-engraved items are mostly imported from within their countries if they have a store in their country.

As a result, the deliveries for engraved products are later than usual. They take longer to deliver, especially if you have ordered during the holiday season when their demand is high.

Apple takes about 4 to 5 extra days to deliver engraved items. So if you have ordered at a busy time, add 1 to 2 more days to that. On the other hand, non-engraved items are delivered within 1 to 3 days.

Can I Return Engraved AirTags?

Yes. You can return engraved AirTags at Apple within two weeks of purchasing. However, you cannot exchange engraved AirTags as Apple does not allow exchanges on engraved products. You can only return them.

According to Apple’s Standard Return Policy, “The only exchange exceptions are personalized items (such as engraved iPhone, iPad, or AirPods) and Macs that have been custom-configured. These items cannot be exchanged in store; they can only be returned and your refund will be issued to the payment method you used on your order”.

Therefore, if you decide to return your engraved AirTags, you can return them within two weeks of purchasing. However, if you want to trade in your engraved AirTags, you cannot do so as Apple does not allow exchanges for engraved products.

Your best option would be to return your engraved AirTags and then repurchase another Apple product with the money Apple returns you.

Can I Change the Engraving?

You can only change the engraving on your Apple products if your Order Status says “Order Placed” or “Processing.” If you placed an online order as a guest on Apple, you would have to add it to your Apple ID to change the engraving online.

If you have accidentally chosen the wrong message to be engraved on your products, or you have changed your mind, you can change the engraving by signing into your Order Listing.

Once you have signed in, please select the item to view its order details. Now, if the order status says “Order Placed” or “Processing,” you can edit the engraving by going to the “Gift Wrap and Message or Engraving Section.” Under this section, click on “Edit.”

However, if the order status does not say “Processing,” your message has already been engraved on the product and is ready to ship. At this stage, you cannot cancel the order. Your only option is to return it.

Is It Worth Getting AirPods Engraved?

If you plan to keep your AirPods forever, you should engrave them. Engraving them with some contact info allows someone to contact you if you lose them.

Engraving your AirPods is quite a smart idea as you can impress your contact info on your belongings if you lose them. For example, I had my AirPods engraved with my email address which came in handy when I dropped them in a mall. Someone emailed me a few hours later and told me that I could collect it from them.

However, if you want to sell your Apple product in the future, you should not get it engraved as you will have trouble reselling it. You can engrave anything on your Apple products except for these four numbers.
