Yes, a Fitbit works on your ankle. Wearing it around your ankle yields the most accurate results for exercises like walking at a slow pace. But wearing it on the ankle means you will miss out on many features, such as heart rate monitoring.

Since a Fitbit is designed to work best when worn on your wrist, wearing one on your ankle will slightly reduce the accuracy.

That said, wearing it on your ankle is considered the most accurate location for when you are walking slowly and want a precise step count. Since this exercise involves more movement of the legs than arms, the Fitbit will record your footsteps more accurately when it is fastened on your ankle.

  • Make sure that the sensors on the bottom of the module contact your skin.

During Exercise

The way you wear the Fitbit during exercise is a bit different from how you wear it daily. Some activities like weight lifting and push-ups cause your wrist to bend at more of a right angle which cuts off the blood flow around your Fitbit.
